We completed the foundation for our West side expansion project. The existing foundation for this home is constructed from cast in place concrete. I like to keep foundation types the same whenever possible, so we used 8″ concrete walls for the new foundation. We did find one surprise….when we excavated for the foundation we discovered the existing foundation was sitting on the ground without any footings. It appears the base of the 8″ walls has been adequate to support this home for close to 100 years. Our new foundation of course is constructed with a concrete footing for the wall to sit on.
The carpenters have installed the foundation insulation and are now starting on the new floor system.
