Hot Tub Room Addition

We just started work on another room addition. This client needs the room to house a hot tub that can be used for therapeutic care. We worked with them to come up with a design that is both simple, to keep costs down, but also serves the purpose well.

The floor system for this room will be concrete. We considered wood fra...

Spa Room

Our work at the spa room addition has progressed quickly. We have erected the sidewalls and the roof structure and set the windows and exterior door. We are using Marvin Integrity windows on this project. They are a good choice in this application as they have a wood interior surface and a very tough fiberglass exterior surface. ...

Outdoor Living Room

The outdoor living room we added to a client’s home was finished up a few weeks ago. During the past few days Grove Landscaping was busy completing the landscape work for the project.

The landscape features provide wonderful exterior spaces for this family to enjoy. Included in the work is a fire pit …a great place t...

Second Street Addition

This week we started another addition to a home in Northfield. We worked with this client for several weeks planning the addition and remodeling project. Some years ago we added a third floor to this home, so we were very familiar with the structure. In this project we had to address several load bearing issues.

River House finished

We have wrapped up our work at the river house remodeling project. This was fun for everyone involved in the work. The new west facing windows let in an incredible amount of daylight into the kitchen and living room areas. The views out the windows are spectacular!

The clients selected maple cabinets in a honey tone stai...

Wall decay

On an addition and remodeling project we are working on we discovered some problems from years ago. The home had a roof that joined against a wall. These are tricky areas to flash properly in that you need the roof water to exit the roof without any chance to get behind the siding. This usually requires the roof step flashing to c...

Second Street Addition

In spite of some snow and cold weather the carpenters are moving along well with our Second Street home addition and remodeling project. We managed to erect the roof trusses and get the roofing materials installed while the weather was more temperate. Like many additions, our plan is to do the majority of the heavy construction w...

Second Street Addition

It has been a couple of weeks since I posted to our website. Like most firms that work outside in Minnesota, we have been struggling with the snow and cold. Our thermometer registered -26 below zero this morning!

In spite of the cold we have continued work on our 2nd Street home additio...

Oak flooring at addition

Last week we started installation of a new red oak floor in our Second Street addition. We removed the flooring in the existing living room area and installed new oak flooring there, running it through into the newly created dining area. We install the new flooring over water resistant paper. That helps keep any moisture that may...

Water intrusion in walls

We all know that houses can last decades and decades. My family lived in a 1923 wood frame bungalow with stucco exterior for over 30 years. During that time I did a fair amount of remodeling to the home…additions, window replacements, roofing, etc. I never found any area where the wall or roof sheathing was rotten due to ...
