Every year the city of Northfield celebrates with the Defeat of Jesse James Days (DJJD).
This is a weekend event that draws tens of thousands of visitors to the city and allows local folks an opportunity to have fun and visit with each other. Last night started things off with the Joseph Lee Heywood Dinner.
Joseph Lee Heywood was a teller at the First National Bank robbed by Jesse James and his gang in 1876. Heywood was killed after refusing to open the safe for the robbers. Each year a person is selected to receive the Joseph Lee Heywood Award recognizing contributions to Northfield. This year Chip DeMann received the award for his many, many years of dedicated service to the Defeat of Jesse James Days committee as well as his work on the historical society and other civic matters.
The DJJD royalty was at the dinner
Along with the DJJD junion royalty .
The weekend is packed with all sorts of activities for people of all ages. We will have classic cars on display, art exhibits, a Rotary Club bike tour event, a rodeo, and many other activities. If you have not visited Northfield during Defeat of Jesse James Days, plan a trip here this year and see what it is all about.
